Have You Considered Working as a Precinct Inspector?

If you've ever wondered how to become more active in government, there's plenty of opportunities for you that do not involve running for elected office. Michigan has 277 cities and 1,240 townships. During an election, each of these units of government requires a staff of paid workers to work at the polls.

Precinct inspectors are people who are paid to assist voters at the polls on election day. Registered voters interested in serving as election inspectors must submit an election inspector application to the clerk of the city or township where they wish to serve. (An individual can serve as an election inspector in any city or township in the county where he or she resides.) In addition to their name, address and date of birth, applicants must include their political party preference and qualifications to fill the position such as education or experience.

A precinct inspector must be a registered voter. They cannot be a challenger, candidate, member of a candidate's immediate family, or a member of the local Board of Canvassers. Anyone convicted of a felony or an elections crime may not serve.

Why not consider helping your community and becoming more politically active by becoming a precinct inspector?  Hudson Township is in need of Inspectors for this year's elections.  Contact Township Clerk, Frank Wasylewski for more information or how to apply to become a precinct inspector.

Planning Commission Member Needed.   Hudson Township is in need of a individual willing to serve on the Township's Planning Commission for a three-year term.  Position helps make a development plan of the land use for the township as well as the administration of the zoning ordinance.  Must be a registered elector of Hudson Township.  The Commission meets quarterly throughout the year.  Please contact the Township Clerk for further information.

BINGO

The Hudson Township Auxiliary hosts a weekly Bingo game at the Township Hall every Wednesday night.   Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and Bingo begins at 7p.m.  All paper bingo.  Come join us!

As of May 1, 2010, our bingo is now smoke-free.

Proceeds from the game fund the township fire department and other civic projects.  The Auxiliary recently donated $50,000  towards the township's new fire trucks.

Building improvements

Hudson Township is seeking proposals for the repair of the southeast corner of the fire department building.  Interested contractors should contact Township Supervisor, Terry Erber at (231) 549-2624 to discuss possible solutions for the repair of concrete blocks.

The township board also hopes to repaint the exterior wood and blocks of the Township Hall and Fire Department.  If interested in submitting a bid, please contact Township Supervisor, Terry Erber.

The Township Board would like to see the project completed before summer 2011.

Turn out Gear and Washer-Extractor

Hudson Township was fortunate to have been awarded a grant under the Assistance to Firefighters for the purchase of new turn-out gear, a washer-extractor, including complete installation, and a new radio for our Fire Department.  (see award letter on Fire Department page).

This was a tremendous improvement for our Department.

Road Improvements

North Camp Ten Road is pothole free!  The newly paved road makes for a much nicer commute through  the township.  This road was improved with funds from the County Road millage.

Studer Road and Jenkins Road were improved this fall with the placement of Afton stone using Township Road millage funds.

Our history

Hudson Township hosted "An introduction to the history of Hudson Township" presented by the Charlevoix County History Preservation Society at the Township Hall.

Hudson Township was once a part of Otsego County and was officially added to Charlevoix County in 1869.  This was just the beginning - we're looking for historical photos, maps, documents, stories, etc.  If you have any information on the history of the township, please contact the Township Clerk .

ROAD CHANGES

IMPORTANT NOTICE.  Please note that Camp Ten Road is now called "NORTH CAMP TEN ROAD" within Hudson Township.  The name has been changed to correct numbering issues that exist with the section of the road within Otsego County.  The name Camp Ten Road will only exist in Otsego County.

This change was Charlevoix County Equalization Department's attempt to correct the serious problem that exists with both townships having the same house numbers, mailing address and even phone companies.  It is important to check your telephone bills, both land lines and mobile, to determine where your 911 emergency calls are routed.  If emergency services are needed, it would be wise to verify which county dispatch you have, recently, a grass fire visible from the towship hall was dispatched to Otsego County.

McGregor Road has now been renamed in Hudson Township to "WOODWARD ROAD".  Woodward Road now runs from North Camp Ten Road to the Otsego County line, at which point it changes name to McGregor Road.
